A columbarium is a permanent structure that provides for the inurnment of cremated remains. Since the early days of the Church, the burial of the dead on parish grounds near the church has been desirable as it is symbolic of the cycle of life within the Church. The term columbarium comes from the Latin word, "columba," which means a "dwelling place of a dove." The dove has long symbolized the embodiment of the Holy Spirit.
The location is an enclosed, prayerful area outside the chapel. This space provides a sacred private site for prayer, meditation, and celebration of lives well lived. The adjoining chapel may be used for prayer and reflection. The gated area is under video surveillance and locked when the church is secured after services or regular business hours. Family who wishes to access the columbarium should stop by the parish office to receive an entry code.
