Fr. Gregory Spencer was born on September 25, 1956, to David and Kinko Spencer of Raleigh. He is the oldest of four children. He grew up in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Fr. Greg attended Catholic school from elementary through college. He received a BSBA in Accounting from Xavier University in 1979 and worked as an accountant and banker in Cincinnati for 5 years.
He later attended Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana and earned a Master of Divinity in 1989. He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana, but later transferred to the Diocese of Raleigh in North Carolina. His first assignment in the Diocese of Raleigh was at St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington in 1997. Fr. Greg returned to St. Mark 22 years later in 2019 to serve as the current pastor.

In his spare time, Fr. Greg enjoys bicycling, teaching, music, art, painting, drawing, astronomy, classic cars, model shipbuilding, and woodworking.
