When a husband and wife are united in marriage, they no longer seem like something earthly, but rather like the image of God himself.
- St. John Chrysostom
The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is a covenant, a permanent union between a husband and wife capable of knowing and loving one another and God. Marriage also symbolizes the union of Christ and the Church. Catholics are encouraged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic liturgy. When a man and woman are married in the Church, they receive the grace needed for a lifelong bond of unity.
