When you think of "advent," you might think of an advent calendar filled with chocolates, sweet treats, or other toys and gifts. However, in the Catholic faith, Advent is a quiet and prayerful time of waiting and preparation for the birth of Jesus at Christmas and for his Second Coming! The Season of Advent also marks the beginning of the Church's liturgical year.

For Catholics, Christmas is not just one day! The Christmas Season begins on Christmas Eve (December 24) and ends on the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord (January 2-8).
During the Christmas Season we also celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, on New Year's Day (January 1).
